Only the thought of some really good photo opportunities convinced Sarah Scott to join Carol Stum on a mule trip down into the Grand Canyon in 1991. From there, the two ventured outside of the continental U.S. into Canada and Europe.
Now retired from teaching, they have formed their own little company: Creative Focus...By Two Gutsy Broads.
But their love of photography goes back to their youth. Carol, A Hoosier by birth, had her own darkroom in the 70's and learned to print from a friend who is also a talented artist. Like many of us, her love of creative photography was shelved for years until the chance to travel presented itself.
Likewise, Sarah, known as Scotty, picked up a brownie camera in the 50's and never quit shooting. She made her way to Europe the first time in 1970 with 40 rolls of film and an instamatic camera. As a journalism major, she learned photography by studying some of the great photographers and just shooting.
Both enjoy finding "that unique angle", watching for just the right light and noticing texture, line and framing techniques. Carol loves sunrises and sunsets and has quite a collection. Put a body of water nearby and she enjoys it even more. Scotty likes to shoot flowers and closeups.
Together they explore both the countryside and the cities; and 2-hour trips often take twice the time. Once a 26-mile trip in Ireland took the entire day. "Just too many photo ops!"
We hope you will travel with us...and enjoy the sights along the way.
